If Only....

Take my hand O human child
In flights of fancy, hand in hand we shall fly to another world
For my fairyland is filled with Joy
Away from here and wounded souls
that swirl in sorrow, pain and tears

Due come with me O human Child
In flights of fancy, hand in hand to my world
where life is sweet
and ruby reds drops are made of cherry blossoms
and never of bitter tears.

More later.  My mind is lost in a low hanging mist right now.

A Sad Song....

Well, I have been feeling rather sorry for myself lately.......

'Tis strange, but true; for truth is always strange.....

It's taken many years to learn that 'things' (except for my computer, Android Phone & Nook) have never possessed the power to make me happy.  Oh, there was always the 'promise' of happiness to come with each shiny new purchase but much to my disappointment the ever elusive specter of 'happiness' rarely materialized for me -and- on the rare occasion when it did I could no more hold onto the feeling than one could hold onto to a shadow.  After the initial thrill of the purchase I was more commonly left with a let-down feeling of disappointment and emptiness along with a side helping of regret and 'buyer's remorse' and the sting of an empty wallet.  Purchase after purchase,  time after time....

I figured that I needed to find a different path to happiness.

Ya think...really?

It's been somewhere between 10 to 12 months that I've been gravitating towards living an anti-consumerist lifestyle. It's not been the easiest of transitions due to my 'issues' which admittedly are many.

For example:

Aside from spending issues

  • I'm quit fond of 'instant gratification'.
  • I get a bit of a high from buying things only later suffer immensely from 'buyers remorse'

This change requires a significant amount of self discipline of which I  am shamefully lacking -but- I am determined.

I started by stringently sticking to a 'buy used' policy.  It's a kinder, gentler way of forcing myself to learn patience and accept delayed gratification  and I'm still trolling the Thrift Stores for my pyrex cake pans.  Of course there are a few things that can't or shouldn't be purchased pre-owned. But all things that can, should.

Simple enough, right?

Wrong.  This has proven to be anything but simple because.....

When I decide that I want something that 'something'  turns into an 'object of desire'.   It then gets stuck into my crawl and sets up housekeeping.   It then morphs into a full blown Obsession.  As if my mind weren't crowded enough…in squeezes:  Rationalization.  Wicked, wicked Rationalization with it's unholy seductive powers of persuasion.

Damn You Rationalization, damn you to hell!

One might think all is lost ….

Wrong again.

I learned to turn to 'Distraction'.  Distraction is our friend.

Things that I do to distract myself from Rationalization:  (don't look into it's eyes)

  • Sew something, like a new reusable grocery bag from an old t-shirt or make a reusable produce bag from old curtain sheers, cloth napkins…anything you can think of that will keep your mind in The Frugal Zone.
  • Crochet
  • Bake something from scratch.
  • Read a Free Book
  • Listen to a Free Audio Book
  • Call a frugal friend. One who hates Big thieving, unethical, tax-dodging Corporations. A friend who who will risk his/her life and jump through rings of fire to talk you out of parting with your money to buy a product that you don't really need, a product that will enrich a Tax Dodging Corporation who fired all of their American workers sending their jobs to places like Mexico, China, India, etc. because those poor people work for slave wages with no benefits, having precious few Human Rights and no Labor Laws and it's easier to hide obscenely huge Corporate profits in offshore accounts (give me a second to catch my breath).  Surely everyone must know someone like me...I mean someone like that…..someone like....I mean....you know..
  • Go work in your veggie garden, if you don't have a veggie garden now would be a good time to start one -or- if it's the wrong season to start planning your veggie Garden, meanwhile.....
  • Start growing Sprouts on your kitchen window seal
  • *Watch the free Documentary; The Corporation  <----- this should assist in your transformation into an Anti-Consumer.

Together Jar & I will snuggle into the sofa with a bowl of popcorn for the event, Jar finds The Corporation to be even more horrifying than I.  We both sleep with the lights on.

Why didn't I think of this ?

Love Eternalized

Other than this poem suiting my dark & melodramatic mood today I have no other reason to blog it.

A Man to his Mistress
by Margaret Cavendish

O do not grieve, Dear Heart, nor shed a Tear,

Since in your Eyes my Life doth still appear;

And in your Countenance my Death I find,

I’m Buried in your Melancholy Mind;

But in your Smiles I’m Glorified to Rise,

And your pure Love doth me Eternalize:

Thus by your Favour you a God me make,
But by your Hate a Devils Shape I take

“To all Noble, and Worthy Ladies”, Poems and Fancies (1653)
